Change physical packaging

Open boxes or create packs while preserving the total number of items.

Draft article for local review. Instructions may change before release.

Use a packaging change when you physically open or repack stock. The operation removes packages from one form and adds the equivalent quantity to another form of the same item.

Sales staff, including cashiers, can confirm these changes at their authorized location while online. A separate manager approval is not required. Changes remain visible in the packaging report.

Record the change

  1. Open Stock for the correct location.
  2. Choose Change packaging as the action.
  3. Choose the source package you are removing or opening.
  4. Enter the number of source packages.
  5. Choose the destination package.
  6. Enter a reason.
  7. Choose Review change and check both resulting package counts.
  8. Choose Confirm and save.

Both package forms must already exist for the same item. The source must have enough recorded stock, and the counts must convert to a whole number of destination packages.

Open a box

For one box containing 20 cigars:

PackageChange
Box of 20−1 box
Single+20 singles

The store still has the same total number of cigars.

Make a five-pack

To put five loose cigars into one physical pack:

PackageChange
Single−5 singles
Five-pack+1 pack

Putting loose cigars in a container for a customer does not, by itself, make them a different inventory package. Ring up the actual sellable form and quantity. Record a conversion when the store physically changes its stocked packaging.

Packaging changes and inventory corrections

A packaging change cannot add or remove total base units. Receiving, damage, loss and count corrections are different inventory events and require the appropriate management access.

If recorded counts change before you confirm, refresh and review the latest balances. Do not use a count correction just to force a packaging conversion through.
