Set the location sales tax

Configure the percentage added after discounts at checkout.

Draft article for local review. Instructions may change before release.

Sales tax is one configured percentage for a store location. It is separate from supplier pricing and excise tax.

Set or change the rate

  1. Open Locations → View location for the location you want to configure.
  2. Under Settings, choose Edit sales tax.
  3. Enter the percentage in Sales tax (%). For example, enter 7.25 to configure 7.25%, rather than 0.0725.
  4. Choose Save sales tax.
  5. Check that the location details show the percentage you intended.

Use the rate applicable to your location. The example above explains the input format; it is not a recommended rate. If you intend to configure zero, enter 0 explicitly. Not configured is different from a saved 0% rate.

Where the rate applies

The location rate applies to the discounted retail subtotal. You do not set separate sales-tax percentages by supplier, brand, product line, item or package.

The location details and Tax policy → Location pricing settings use the same saved rate. Updating it in either place changes the location's pricing configuration; it does not create another tax setting.

Changing sales tax here preserves the location's category excise-inclusion settings.

Address changes and register updates

An address change does not calculate a new sales-tax rate. Check the rate when moving a store or changing its address.

Online registers receive pricing and tax updates when they synchronize. A disconnected register continues to use its installed information until it reconnects, subject to its checkout authorization and data freshness requirements. Completed sales retain the prices and tax recorded when they were made.

Excise is configured separately

The location's category settings decide whether excise is included before retail markup. The supplier's Brand, Product line and Item rules supply the excise amounts or percentages. See How prices are calculated.
